We’ve been bothered by a neighbor’s dog that comes out periodically day and night and just barks for 10 to 30 minutes — usually facing our house. We got this product, found a spot in the trees facing the dog, and set it up. It’s really worked as advertised. The dog starting barking, as usual, but then seemed to bark fewer times, and with less noise. As three weeks have passed, we hear the dog give one or two “test” yelps (more than barks) presumably to see if it still gets “zapped’ by the machine. Since it does, it stops barking immediately. No more gritting teeth (for us) for 10 to 30 minutes, as before. So, I’m delighted with this and wholeheartedly recommend it.

If you have dogs like mine that bark just for fun, over EVERYTHING, and you want ton fix it buy this birdhouse. It worked instantly! We have 3 very vocal dogs, a german sheppard (THEY ARE NOTORIOUS BARKERS)and 2 little yippy dogs. It has even helped with their indoor barking, they definately think twice before they do it. I am not telling you anything but the truth, I wish I had bought this months/yrs ago. It has helped even our neighbors dog who would get it a bark-off with our dogs. Now they are angels. This product is fantastic. I have my yard back. The world’s most annoying dogs and their owners have become good neighbors in spite of themselves. When I placed this in my yard, the neighbor’s dogs immediately came over to the fence to bark and growl as they always do. After the very first bark they backed away from the fence. Now when I go out into my back yard, they may bark tentatively once or twice from the far side of the yard, but usually not. These are the same dogs that would try to bite through the fence, now they don’t even approach it.

As my dog getting older she became quite assertive. She sometime uses prolonged barking in the yard to demand immediate attention for things like walking, feeding or coming in. Being equally assertive, one of my neighbors had written a few complain letters to me, threatening to bring up the dog barking issue to the city council. So I searched on Amazon for a barking stopper, and found this new and only device among numerous shock collars. The reviews were scanty, but positive. I then bought it because one, I hate shocking collars; two, it’s hard to find a non-invasive training collar for a large dog anyway; three, this device does not require human interaction such as being there to push a button. It worked wonderfully – I hang it in my yard and set the sensitivity at the middle, considering my puppy is deaf. That day she barked twice and stopped immediately. Since then, her incessant barking has been reduced to occasional singular announcements that my neighbor could tolerate.

This collar worked great for my smart and trainable long-haired German Shepherd — effectively re-trained her barking behavior, and we quickly got to the point where she didn’t need it any more. I also loaned it to a friend with a very spirited Golden Retriever, and it has worked well for their dog, although she continues to need to wear it most of the time even after a year. My mother tried it with her keeshonds, who are the most stubborn dogs I’ve ever met, and it really didn’t work with them, even when she made adjustments for their thick fur. Of course, those dogs are pretty behaviorally challenging, and a strong shock-collar has only been moderately effective for them. So … for a spirited but reasonably compliant dog, it has seemed to work well, but for more stubborn dogs, the barking challenge may go on and on.

The barking problem I had with my dog is he goes nuts when taking him on a walk and we pass near another dog. It’s not that he is aggressive. He just wants to check out the other dog and barks and lunges when he can’t. With this collar he gets a puff of citronella spray near his face with each bark. It’s not too intense for him, but seems to be annoying enough to do the trick. He quickly made the connection between the bark and the spray. It also does not leave a lingering odor. He now behaves much better. When we pass another dog he starts acting like he wants to bark, but something in that fur brain of his kicks in and says “oh yea, I’ll get sprayed, not worth it.”

This collar worked miracles for the first 3-4 weeks. My wheaten terrier stopped barking at folks who walked by our house when we was inside. When he was in the yard he also stopped barking at people as long as he had the collar on. Initially he was depressed for the first few days because it was a big change from his perceived role of protecting the house (this is a self chosen assignment, not anything that I ever requested). Over time though, the effectiveness of the spray collar has worn off. He still barks less when he is outside but does not seem to mind being sprayed. I will say that the battery wares out rather quickly, so order extra batteries to have on hand.

I have 3 dogs and when one barks, the others follow. I’ve tried the shock collar on one of my dogs and he would stay under my bed all day long, so I got rid of that. Then I tried the high pitch bark collar – it worked ok, but when my kids would play near the dogs, sometimes the collars would go off and it really didn’t seem do the job. This collar works great – when I get home from work, the 3 of them are usually barking and won’t stop, with this collar, they just look at me and waggle – it doesn’t scare my older dog either (the one that hid under the bed). I would highly recommend it!

I have a beagle and I would highly recommend a spray collar over a shock collar for a self disciplining tool. I have tried 2 different models and this is the better one since it relys upon the sound vibrations against the neck and isn’t a barb that pokes into the neck. The citronella spray scent hasn’t been harmful and is very quick to work. The on and off switch is a great battery saver. The batteries are not easy to find and make SURE that the battery you buy is still good.
